At Horsefeather Palo Alto, the menu comes from Executive Chef Johanna Frégoso Ruiz, who
currently leads the kitchen at Horsefeather San Francisco. Her background includes time at the
Michelin-starred Aziza. Her cooking is generous, grounded, and focused on flavor. The dishes carry weight, but never lose their edge. There’s comfort in the form of fried chicken with sriracha honey, served as a proper Meat & Three. There’s a double cheeseburger that’s been stress-tested to perfection, and duck fat fries dusted in umami seasoning with curried ketchup on the side. That same clarity shows up in dishes like miso linguini or saffron risotto with hen of the woods. Each one plays with richness and brightness, nothing’s overdone. The mango-lime “ceviche”, made with plant-based tuna, is bright, clean, and harmoniously composed.
The cocktail list, created by longtime Horsefeather SF General Manager Dzu Nguyen, reflects that same approach. It features well-loved signatures from the original San Francisco bar alongside new standouts built for Palo Alto. There’s structure and depth in milk-washed rums, spice, and savory elements, but also freshness and brightness—like the Showpony, made with American whiskey, ginger, sarsaparilla, barley, lemon, angostura, and soda. Citrus, herbs, fruit, and florals show up across the menu, along with a low-ABV section built for guests who want a proper drink without the full pour. The zero-proof offerings are treated with the same intent—crafted with care and clarity from the ground up—which can be found in the R.H.C, made with no-proof Amaro, HF Cola cordial, mint, and lime.
